Does your morning routine need a boost?

Within the last few months I have quit my job, moved in and out of numerous houses in Summit County, searched for jobs to fill the time before our new Whole Foods started hiring, started cleaning vacation rentals, finally found an amazing place to live, started working for the new Whole Foods as a prepared foods supervisor, and hauled multiple bags of food from place to place during the process. With all the chaos, I’ve been struggling to keep a good morning routine. I can tell you from experience, having a good morning routine can do wonders for your day.

Sage Herbal Tea

While dogsitting for my parents in Denver, I noticed that my mom had a ton of sage still on her sage bush from last summer. My boyfriend and I thought it would be a great idea to make some sage bundles to burn. After making four large bundles, we still had so much left over! Since sage has so many great health properties, we decided to make a sage herbal tea.

Shrimp Tom Yam Soup {Tom Yam Kung}

Looking back, it is surprising how many of the Thai dishes we made in the scorching heat of Chiang Mai are a much better fit for the snowy, cold winter in Colorado. Tom Yam soup is a staple in Thai cuisine. It is even easier to make than coconut curry and also extremely healthy. This is a shrimp Tom Yam, but you can easily make it with veggies or any other protein. This dish is spicy, but has a bright acidity from the lime and lemongrass.

Olympian Ted Ligety & YES {Every Step Donation}

Sometimes the Olympics can be a bit overwhelming. Lots of political controversy and money wasted on advertising can take away from what the games are truly about- coming together as a world. I am really excited to share with you Citi’s Every Step of the Way donation. They are donating $500,000 to Olympic community programs! This is what I like seeing from big companies. They are truly giving back to our communities.

Eggless Gooey Fudge Brownies {High Altitude Recipe}

For Valentine’s Day, I wanted to surprise my boyfriend with a special treat. The only problem is that he is allergic to almost everything- eggs, red meat, tree nuts & shellfish! I remembered him telling me if he could try anything he was allergic to it would be gooey fudge brownies. Not being much of a baker, I decided to suck it up and give my man what he wanted. The problem is, I am not much of a baker. And I live in Colorado. I found a great eggless gooey brownie recipe on the Family Ever After blog, but didn’t even think about the fact that I was baking at high altitude. The brownies rose too fast and collapsed, leaving me with crystalized sugar hockey pucks. Being the kind soul he is, my boyfriend still ate three of the hockey pucks and told me they were still delicious, but I knew the truth.
